Pump your brakes...

So, ummm, the other day, right? I was on the train, and ummmm, this lady had on a bonafide pair of Kangaroos. I repeat...Kangaroos! I didn't even know they still made them jon't for real, and they didn't look like they were that old. No way some Kangaroos made it 20 years in the condition they were in. Damn!

Which leads me to another point: Some of ya'll are being way too overzealous with this 80's fashion shit! For real! Bammas are in videos with shags now? That's what's really good Bobby Valentino? Dude, I was there, and much like the jheri curl, I knew that those were never a good look. And the skinny jeans...my God...! Stop it! Why wear a pair of skin tight jeans and then wear them to the point where I can see them hanging off ya ass?! I don't want to see that dude...ever! If it's like that, you might as well wear some thigh high boots and some draws on some Prince ish and call it a day.

That is a bad move on your part. Women don't wear jeans as tight as some of you cats. Ya'll are in danger of yeast infections them jon'ts are so tight. For real, I know your boys gotta be bakin' in them jon'ts man...for eal, be honest. Seriously though, stop that coonery, you make us all look bad.

"I won! Give me my money!" "You what?!" "I lost!"

OK, for anybody who knows me, they know I watch movies, man. That’s what I do... I don’t profess to know everything, just typically more than you. I’ve played movie trivia games (Scene It) where it’ll be a team of seven versus me, and I’ll still stomp them. So why is it that I just lost in an office movie trivia charity event? Didn’t even place second, I came in third. Now, we all tied for 17 out of 20 correct answers, but I got trounced in the tie break round.

Had I been paying attention, I would have probably have gotten Father of the Bride...but, you know what, I lost fair and square. I just don’t like it. I deserved to, though. Had I not popped off at the mouth prior to playing, I probably would have won...I don’t have a high win percentage when I talk trash unless it’s in spades or whist (where trash talking is part of the culture).

Best Buy (truly)

So I finally scrounge up the $$$ to cop this Wacom Tablet Monitor that I've been eyeing for the last year or so. Honestly, I was looking at the 20" model, but determined I didn't need that, it just would have been nice to have, y'know? Honestly, I didn't need the one I just got, but it will enable me to streamline a lot of my workflows when it comes to drawing for the computer. The old way meant drawing, then scanning, then re-drawing (because the scan never works perfectly)...then if I have to color, that's a whole other set of issues. This way, I spend more time creating than BSing with the little stuff, y'know?

So, after watching the price remain the same for about a year, I saw Best Buy had it for $100 off, which prompted me to go ahead and buy the bad boy online. With tax, it came up to roughly $970, which means I saved pretty well, because tax was going to get me wherever I bought. Anyway, I paid for it on Saturday, and it arrived a day early this Wednesday. So when I see it sitting there in front of the door, I'm geeked. I pick the jon't up, and can't help but notice how heavy it is. Not that I couldn't lift it, but the jon't is supposed to be pretty light.

So, I change out of my work clothes and proceed to unpacking the UPS bag it came in to reveal a brown Wacom box. I'm like a kid at Christmas. I open the box and...two boxes.

First thought: Wow, they send it in two parts?
Second thought: No way, that's stupid. Did they send me two monitors?

Yup, that's exactly what they did (I had to triple check my receipt just to make sure I didn't goof up somewhere). The first instinct was to return the item unopened and say I changed my mind, thereby getting my money back. But, I quickly came to the conclusion that it would not only be stealing, I'd effectively be having Best Buy pay me to steal from them. Not cool, not me. Although $1 K in my pocket that I prolly shouldn't have spent going back in my pocket sounds nice, moms raised me better than that. So I called yesterday (Thursday) to see how I could return it, and the lady said I could either return it to a physical Best Buy retailer, or ship it back at my expense...what do you think I'm going to do.

I'm thinking I should get a gift card or something, but hey, we'll see. Either way, I believe in the old addage, "You reap what you sow"...karma and all that. With that, I belieeve something much better will come along instead. Least, that's what I'm telling myself right now...

This weekend should be pretty busy, hopefully I can witness a bit of trouble without getting into any myself, what with Family get-togethers and bachelor parties and what not. Oh, and the 'Skins play them Cowgirls this weekend, so I'm charged about that. I so hope we whup dat ass, so I can shut all these haters up who work with me. Anyway, still getting used to flying dolo...but also remembering what it's like to have options if you choose to exercise them. Hmmmm...

Follow-up: I returned the item to a Best Buy on Saturday out in Waldorf, much to the manager's delight/surprise. I got a $25 gift card, but the larger reward was my oldest nephew (who has been actin' a fool as of later) got a chance to see it. Hopefully this will be a positive lesson that he can draw upon in the future...

Just the beginning...

I am still in awe of what was accomplished/realized last night in the most historical presidential election in US hisory. I am still without words for the most part. I just want ot say that this is not the destination, but the point of departure. Yes, that we've arrived at this point as a nation...together is tremendous...but now the real work begins. This is not the time to kick your feet up, but to truly find positive ways that you can get involved to make things better for your families, communities, and by extension, this nation.
I applaud all those who voted, whether you cast a vote for McCain or a vote for Obama, we all took part in a historical moment that will undoubtedly set this nation on a path of great change...which I am optimistic, will be a change for the better and the gretaer good.
It felt wonderful to know that I stood on line for 3 hours to see what I hoped would come to pass realized. It felt good to hear Barack refer to Michelle as the next first lady of the United States of America. It felt great to hear him acknowledge that there will be struggles and hardships, and that the real achievement was by a people that unified under the banner of hope to stand for something believed in. That young and old, gay and straight, Jew, Muslim and Christian, democrat and republican all made a resounding choice to change as a nation. It felt good to see Oprah and Steadmond.
I could care less about Jesse Jackson or his tears...I have lost all respect for that dude, what little was left, during this campaign season. But it felt good to see nothing but beautiful and eager black faces at the polls, ready to vote, just like it was beautiful to see faces that looked nothing like mine emotional and overcome with joy when Barack gave his acceptance speech. I am humbled...
