Just the beginning...

I am still in awe of what was accomplished/realized last night in the most historical presidential election in US hisory. I am still without words for the most part. I just want ot say that this is not the destination, but the point of departure. Yes, that we've arrived at this point as a nation...together is tremendous...but now the real work begins. This is not the time to kick your feet up, but to truly find positive ways that you can get involved to make things better for your families, communities, and by extension, this nation.
I applaud all those who voted, whether you cast a vote for McCain or a vote for Obama, we all took part in a historical moment that will undoubtedly set this nation on a path of great change...which I am optimistic, will be a change for the better and the gretaer good.
It felt wonderful to know that I stood on line for 3 hours to see what I hoped would come to pass realized. It felt good to hear Barack refer to Michelle as the next first lady of the United States of America. It felt great to hear him acknowledge that there will be struggles and hardships, and that the real achievement was by a people that unified under the banner of hope to stand for something believed in. That young and old, gay and straight, Jew, Muslim and Christian, democrat and republican all made a resounding choice to change as a nation. It felt good to see Oprah and Steadmond.
I could care less about Jesse Jackson or his tears...I have lost all respect for that dude, what little was left, during this campaign season. But it felt good to see nothing but beautiful and eager black faces at the polls, ready to vote, just like it was beautiful to see faces that looked nothing like mine emotional and overcome with joy when Barack gave his acceptance speech. I am humbled...

Wow today I definitely am partaking in the whole blogging experience. Part of the reason could be that my place of employment has been really micro-managing lately and have blocked all of my favorite websites like allhiphop, okayplayer, facebook & yes the infamous myspace. Anyway, I noticed Jessie Jackson crying in the audience and I had to wonder if he was crying because he was proud of Obama or because he was a hater. It's hard to believe that he was geninuely happy for Obama when he was caught not once but twice bad mouthing him on camera. I as well have lost all respect for Jesse Jackson. Al Sharpton having a vigil at Martin Luther King's grave on Election Day was in a sense inappropriate to me. While I am so proud of what we as Black Americans have accomplished, Obama is considered to me as the "People's President".
