Still here...
Things have been interesting as of late. Some…interesting possibilities have popped up as of late. Don’t really want to speak on it until it happens; hate to talk about what might happen, or what I plan to do in excess. I’d much rather just do it. Ha…I said do it. But, to completely contradict that last statement, I’ve been thinking: I may actually follow through with my solo EP project. I already have a sound concept, and even have the early stages of the CD design hashed out. That’s how I am man, I get something in my head and I let it bounce around. If it it still appeals to me after it bounces around enough, I go for it. Fully.
I try not to do things half way, mainly because I know that it won’t be held to the same standards as when I’m passionate about something. But, when I’m feeling something, I go at it hard. If I go back to do it again, I try to make the second experience better than the first. So to the two or three ladies that didn’t get the best look…the next one is always a monster. Hahahaha. Jokes.
So, this CD project is seeming like a good idea, not because I want to be this big rapper, but more so because I want to make a statement in a creative medium. I don’t profess to be the illest rapper, in fact, I’m very critical of my rhymin’. I was THIS close to scrappin’ my verse on the Campaign ’04 track (on All Seasons), but the other cats on the joint told me to keep it on there. Whatever. The fact of the matter is, I’m a writer though. And I can so without ego, a clever one at that. All it takes for me to write something hot is to be motivated. My motivation came to me when my boy from Howard let me hear some of the beats he’s been cookin’ up. The amount of growth he’s had since the All Seasons process is impressive. I feel kind of obligated to try to get his stuff out there, I mean, that’s my boy.
Not even trying to make a big thing out of it, this project is more or less for me, but I want everybody to check it. Much like my first book, The Trial of Cupid. I did that chap-book in that manner because everybody was starting to do them, but there was no real theme or anything to it for the most part. It was just cats putting their poetry in a book. I don’t think anybody every peeped my happy little accident, where the table of contents are shaped like a bow and arrow. But see, Trial… was flawed, and I recognized that even as I was pressing those bad boys up at kinkos. I just wanted to do that for myself and share it with folks. Metafor You was a result of me wanting to refine and improve upon what I did the last time.
Better cover design, tighter theme, more poetry, and a better over all flow to how the book was executed. Not to mention the joint was perfect bound by a “professional” printer. I said it like that because I’m still salty how they did my Babylon Songs book, which was my way of telling everybody to step their game up. The one biggest flaw in that book, is the font size…it’s a little too large. But all in all. That book can easily compete with any poet you’ve ever read. Dope theme, better flow, color cover…that joint was hot. Bastards at KCR Printing didn’t bind the first batch right, so them joints were subject to fall apart as soon as you opened them. Which stole my thunder. Why do I have something I'm immensely proud of, but can’t really share because somebody else fucked up on something their supposed to do—well?! (sigh)
All that to say…I may do this EP project as a way to creatively step outside of my comfort zone…rhyming isn’t a natural process for me. When I was younger it was, but your standards aren’t the same in 8th or 9th grade as they are as a grown ass man…unless you’re from the R. Kelly/ Mike Jones school of lyricism. Ouch...that stings. I love poetry, but I can’t force it. Treat it like a lady, when she’s ready, I lay that thang down, y’heard? When she ain’t, I play video games and watch TV. HAhaha…this is so fucking un-politically correct, and I’m loving it!
Well, gotta go…but I will holla soon. Don’t be a stranger.
